Casper the giraffe

Woburn Safari Park is home to a large herd of Rothschild's giraffe. Casper is the breeding male at the Park.

You can see Casper at Giraffe Junction in the Road Safari.

About Casper

Casper is the breeding male at Woburn Safari Park and is easy to identify as he stands much taller than the other members of the herd. He was born on 9th December 2003 at Owuehand Zoo in the Netherlands and moved to Woburn in June 2009.

Casper has lots of nobbles on his head which are common in male Rothschild's giraffes.

Casper has always been a particular favourite of the staff that work on the reserve. He is a very calm giraffe and will often come over to feed from keepers and from guests on VIP tours, when he is fed with specially selected browse (leaves, twigs and branches).

Casper's success as a breeding male at the Park is really important for the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) to help increase the healthy captive population of this Near Threatened species.
